Branch basic information
The West Bohemian Branch is a part of the Czech Astronomical Society (CAS). Currently it has almost 50 members and it aims to bring together people interested in astronomy, not only from West Bohemia, but also from Prague, České Budejovice and other parts of the country. It cooperates with the Observatory in Rokycany, the Observatory and planetarium in Pilsen, Faculty of Education from the Univerzity of West Bohemia and with other branches and sections of CAS. We have a long-standing newsletter, Astronomical Information, with a private appendix ZaCAS that is produced by branch members.
Members sessions
The West Bohemian Branch organizes periodical sessions for their members and for the general public in the Faculty of Education, University of West Bohemia Pilsen. At least two astronomical weekends are organised per year..
The sessions at Faculty of Education are organised rouhgly every three month and consist mainly of astronomical lectures and other similar subjects. There is also a project called "Mini dictionary". In the last session we randomly chose two speakers plus one letter of the alphabet. For the next session they must prepare a short explanation on an astronomical theme that begin with selected letter. Astronomical weekends are usually organised at the Observatory in Rokycany and mainly involve observing astronomical objects. The day-time agenda usually includes lectures or tutorials on astronomy.
These sessions also provide an opportunity to discuss branch activity. Sessions are public and free of charge. The date is announced on these pages, in the Events Calendar, or in our branch Newsletter.
